Terms of use

Reading bills, summaries, scores and dashboards is free and requires no account. An optional free account adds watchlists and a saved location. We may change, suspend or discontinue features, and we may impose reasonable rate limits to keep the service available to everyone.

Vote Impact publishes a plain-language reading of public documents. It is not legal advice, not financial advice, and not a recommendation about how to vote or who to support. No relationship of attorney and client is created by using this site.

If a decision matters, read the bill. Every page links to the official source for exactly that reason.

Summaries, risk and impact scores, sector outlooks, vote projections and answers from the bill assistant are generated by automated analysis of source documents. They can be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. How the scores are produced explains the method and its limits in detail.

Where anything on this site conflicts with the official record published by Congress or a state legislature, the official record is correct and ours is the error. Tell us and we will fix it.

You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. Provide accurate information when you register, tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised, and do not share one account across people who should have their own.

What we ask you not to do is short and unsurprising:

Do not scrape the site in a way that degrades it for other people — if you need bulk data, the providers on the sources page publish it properly, and we would rather point you there than block you. Do not attempt to breach, probe or disrupt the service or its infrastructure. Do not misrepresent our analysis as an official government position, or present it as the output of any party, campaign or agency. Do not use the service to harass anyone or to break the law.

Legislative records are public documents and we claim no ownership of them. Take them from the source; every bill page links out to it.

The plain-language summaries, the scoring rubric, the site design and the code are our work. You may quote and cite them for journalism, research, education and advocacy with clear attribution and a link back. You may not republish them wholesale as your own product or resell them as a data feed without permission.

Anything you submit — a question to the bill assistant, a correction, a discussion post — you grant us permission to use in operating and improving the service. Do not submit anything you do not have the right to share.

The service is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free, or that the analysis is complete or accurate.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Vote Impact and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your reliance on the analysis published here, from any error or omission in it, or from any interruption of the service.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case those exclusions do not apply to you and our liability is limited to the minimum the law permits.

You may stop using the service or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms or that is being used to harm the service or other people.

We may update these terms; material changes move the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the revised terms.
